The Quail Motorcycle Gathering 2011 auction will be held at Carmel, California, specifically at the Quail Lodge on the 14th of May 2011 by Bonhams. This Quail Motorcycle Gathering 2011 auction sale will be headlined by the motorcycle which is understood and believed to be the very first motorcycle that was featured in the August 1971 issue as the front cover of the magazine Sports Illustrated that had Steve McQueen being the rider.
This iconic motorcycle which is a 1971 Husqvarna 400 has been originally a part of the Steve McQueen Estate that was purchased in 1984 in Las Vegas at an auction sale which was the Harrah’s Auto Collection. Not only will this iconic bike have the reputation of its former owner included in its price tag, as well as documentation authenticating it, it also includes historical documentation and claims from the son Chad McQueen as being the favorite of the world renowned Steve McQueen.
This headliner motorcycle is a Swedish-made dirt bike that will be auctioned in the Bonhams Quail Motorcycle Gathering 2011 Auction Sale with the inclusion of a wooden trunk that contains a lot of motorcycle accessories that was also owned by Steve McQueen himself. The 1971 Husqvarna 400 motorcycle and the accessories that will come with it are not the only Steve McQueen ephemera that will be auctioned at the Bonhams Quail Motorcycle Gathering 2011 Sale. Other former belongings of Steve McQueen will also be presented and offered to car and motorcycle enthusiasts as well.
These other items that will be auctioned at the Bonhams Quail Motorcycle Gathering 2011 Sale includes racing trophies that have been won by the iconic and legendary Steve McQueen.
The sale from last year’s auction event at the Quail Lodge was able to sell a 1910 Royal Pioneer Single which was considered very rare for a whopping price of $92,000. This rare example is known as the only survivor of the 1914 Flanders Model D Twin. The former owner of this great example that was sold last year was Otis Chandler, who is a known newspaper scion of LA. Another example that was sold for $64,975 was a fully restored is a 1914 Flanders Model D Twin. Another offering of last year’s auction included the ex-Rody Rodenberg factory-modified 1940 Triumph T100 Tiger Competition as well as the famous model of a 1972 Harley-Davidson XR 750 TT.
